Stimulating the economic, social and cultural development of the Kawawachikamach community

A Living Legacy

For more than 45 years, the Naskapi Development Corporation (NDC) has embodied the vision of a strong, resilient and forward-looking Indigenous corporation. It was created in 1979, under a special Quebec law, the  Act respecting the Naskapi Development Corporation, in accordance with section 17 of the Northeastern Québec Agreement - one of Canada's first modern treaties, signed by the federal and provincial governments and the Naskapi Nation of Kawawachikamach.

Entirely controlled by Naskapi beneficiaries, it was created to manage the compensation provided under the Agreement and to invest in the economic, social, and cultural development of the Nation.

True to its values and traditions, the NDC draws on its deep knowledge of the land and the strength of its community to build a sustainable future for the benefit of present and future generations.

Our locations

From our head office in Kawawachikamach to our administrative office in Quebec City, the NDC carries out projects and operates essential services in several Quebec regions, especially Côte-Nord and Nord-du-Québec.

In the heart of our community, our head office houses the majority of the Naskapi team, as well as the Language and Culture Department. It also welcomes visitors who want to discover books, crafts and other cultural resources, and it is where our Board of Directors meets to ensure that decisions are made in line with community priorities.

In Québec City, our office manages most of the administrative operations that support NDC projects across the province. Our presence facilitates links with partners, suppliers and organizations to ensure efficient coordination.

Together, our two offices maintain strong roots in the community while remaining connected to Quebec's administrative and commercial network.

The traditional Naskapi flower embodies culture and the transmission of knowledge, while the linear pattern illustrates the Naskapi journey through continuity, challenges, and renewal.

This logo reflects the Corporation's mission: to encourage, promote, protect and help preserve Naskapi values, traditions and way of life, while being mindful of the community's well-being and educational advancement.
